The Scottish Rite Theater, Austin's oldest theater, was originally built as a German opera house in 1871. Scottish Rite Children's Theater is a community theater with the goal of providing year-round, affordable, and fun children's entertainment. By taking well known fairy tales and giving them their own spin, Scottish Rite Theater creates clever, original plays aimed at teaching positive lessons. The plays are written to encourage children to be interactive and to foster an appreciation of live theater. The theater is now under new leadership and undergoing some changes in the coming months including a new website. In addition to their family programs, SRT also offers summer camps.
