Barton Springs pool is an Austin favorite for a reason. Between the grassy knolls for lounging & the 68 degree spring fed water, it's a pool that is as unique as Austin. 68 degrees may sound chilly but it's pretty refreshing during the hot Texas summers. My children are young, 2 & 4, so we usually stick to the shallow end. We usually bring water shoes as the bottom of the shallow end can get slick, noodles for floating and a blanket to sit on. Older kids and adults will enjoy the diving board and swimming in the deeper end. There is no food allowed but there is a concession stand just outside the gates by the Zilker Zephyr. Also prohibited are coolers, glass, alcohol, frisbees, footballs, soccer balls or other hard balls. You can bring drinks but they must be in a plastic resealable container with a twist-top lid. We usually go earlier in the day so we've never had an issue with parking or crowds but I've heard it can get pretty crowded later in the day. Make it a day with a ride on the Zilker Zephyr, run around the huge playscape and you've got yourself a really fun family day!...more
